Awanas

Atheist...

i remember growing up, thanks also to mary, let me jot a few thoughts:
* rather than girl scouts, we had "awanas?" -- how many bible verses you memorized and how many people you converted to christ won you patches
* weeks and weeks of vacation bible schools
* Mary and marty sitting in trances, looking weird with glazed eyes, talking saying that it wasn't them talking, but rather god talking through them
* being tackled by mary and marty who would "annoint" my head with oil crosses to drive the devil out
* lots of "abra ladkjfflk hghghgh ddkkkeeee" - lol, talking in tongues by Mary, Marty, and where we went to church
* lots of paranoid hiding from people who were supposedly "devil worshippers"

Would it be inappropriate to chuckle here? Sorry. What a crazy household you had to deal with. Like you, I have a hard time understanding why people have to take what can otherwise be a very meaningful and positive religion and bastardize it. If people would simply love and show grace, it would solve a lot of problems. But I'm glad you chose "Agnostic" over "Atheist." *smile* Had you experienced Christianity or any other religion in a more positive form as a child, you'd likely have a different view of it today. (At least that's been my experience with friends in similar circumstances.)

So what ever happened to Mary? And why do you not call her "mom" or "my mother" etc.? Who was Marty? Not your father, I presume? How did your parents meet? How did you mom meet Marty? What ever happened to your brother and father?

What did the oil, Mary, Marty, and your home smell like? How long was Marty in the picture?

How often did your mother hug/kiss you? What do you suppose was the source/cause of her bizarre (if that's the right word) behavior?

What happened after you went to live with your dad?

I know. Lot's of questions. But with a purpose...
